Volunteer Description

VOLUNTEER CAMP COOK POSITION

Heroes and Horses is an innovative nonprofit based out of Virginia City, Montana.  Our mission at Heroes and Horses is to offer combat veterans an alternative solution for defining and approaching their physical and mental scars—a solution that does not include prescription medications, or traditional psychotherapy, but rather the opportunity to use tools to redefine their purpose, rediscover their inner strength, and maximize their potential by taking ownership of their lives for the first time since leaving service.

The Heroes and Horses camp cook team provides the best possible dining experience for the students and support staff of Heroes and Horses. As one of our program modalities, whole food eating is incredibly important to the veterans experience while in the program.  The H&H camp cook team is in charge of maintaining a high functioning and clean kitchen and ensuring healthy wholefood meals are delivered 3x/day to students, volunteers, and staff (roughly 20 people per meal).

There is a dedicated chef that prepares the camp menu and the grocery list with quantities listed. They are the lead for the Double H Ranch kitchen and meal planning.

Thank you so much for investing your time and skills to help us create beautiful whole food based meals for our team. Camp cooks play a vital role in the success of every program class during the season. Just knowing that there is a good hot meal waiting for you while you are journeying through change, makes any task easier.
